1. ACCOMMODATION SERVICES
Provisions of pensions are expanded to meet the accommodation
needs of students who attend school away from their families.
1.1.
ACCOMMODATION SERVICES GIVEN BY THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL
EDUCATION
In
the academic year 2001-2002, there are 1.500 pensions all
over the country with 359.800 bedding capacity. 28% of these
pensions are for primary, 60% for secondary and 6% for Special
education.
1.2. ACCOMMODATION SERVICES PROVIDED BY FOUNDATIONS, SOCIETIES, REAL
PERSONS AND OTHER CORPORATE BODIES
Foundations, societies, real persons and other corporate
bodies provide services in private dormitories for students
attending secondary, higher and combined education.

In the academic year 2001-2002, there are 2.100 pensions
as secondary, higher and secondary-higher private student
dormitories, of which 558 are for girls, 1.500 for boys
and 45 are combined. These dormitories house 93.700 students:
25.300 girls and 68.400 boys.

Of these dormitories, 1.000 are for secondary, 484 for higher
and 609 for secondary-higher education.

YURT-KUR
is a public institution giving social services, working
under the Ministry of National Education and, having corporate
identity, is subject to provisions of private law.

In
the academic year 2001-2002;
· 190 dorms in 74 provinces
and 56 towns accommodate 182.600 students, 98.900 of which
are girls and 83.600 are boys.
· Of the students being
accommodated in the dorms of YURT-KUR, 54.2% are girls and
45.8% are boys.
· All of the applicant
students in this academic year have been placed in the dorms.
A quota of 2.728 has been reserved for those coming from
the Turkic Republics and other Turkish communities, and
about 6000 students are staying in dorms. Also 304 students
from the countries with which the Turkish Republic has a
cultural agreement and 109 students under state protection
are accommodated in the dorms free of charge.
· In the dorms, food allowance
for the students was 200.000 liras in 2000, and 250.000
liras in 2001, and for those under state protection this
figure was 1.400.000 and 1.750.000 respectively and the
meal prices were 25% lower than the market.
· The monthly bedding price
in the dorms is 12.000.000 TL, in the private dorms with
a different pricing policy, this price ranges from 15.000.000
to 70.000.000 TL.
· Monthly cost per student
for YURT-KUR is 40.000.000 TL.
2. SCHOLARSHIPS AND CREDITS
2.1. SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDED BY THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION
Scholarship services are provided for students attending
the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th classes of primary education
institutions and students in general and vocational-technical
secondary education institutions. The scholarship provided
for students is calculated by multiplying the 400 scholarship
indicators by the coefficient of officer salaries and paid
quarterly. However, the Ministry of National Education is
planning to increase the scholarship indicator from 400
to 600 and then to 800 and over.
Another
goal of the Ministry of National Education for the students
who enjoy a scholarship attending primary and secondary
education is to enable the ones who complete their education
while holding a scholarship or staying in dorms may take
advantage of the same social aids in higher education with
priority and unconditionally.

In the academic year 2001-2002;
Scholarship is provided for 104.300 primary and secondary
education students: 40.200 girls and 64.100 boys
· Of the scholarship holding
students 39% are girls and 61% are boys.
· Of the scholarship holding
students 48% are in primary and 58% are in secondary education.
· Scholarship services
are distributed as follows: 25% teachers' children, 15%
children under protection, 39% students who live in non-schooled
areas, 30% other students.
· Scholarship paid monthly
to each student was 6.304.000 liras at the end of 2000 and
it was increased to 9.420.000 liras in September 2001.
2.2. CREDITS PROVIDED BY YURT-KUR
The amount of monthly education credits provided for higher
education students and the credit allocation quotas are
increased every year and efforts are made to have more students
benefit from the credits as far as the budget permits.
2.2.1. Education Credit
In the academic year 2001-2002, education credit is for
298.000 students, of which 296.600 are in pregraduate, 1.300
in graduate and 1.666 in doctorate programs.
99.5% of the students receiving credit from YURT-KUR are
in pregraduate or undergraduate programs. The number of
students having credit has increased 15% in pregraduate-undergraduate,
36.8% in graduate and 9.8% in doctorate students since last
year.
As far as the budget permits, 172.750 students have been
scheduled to receive education credit, of whom 170.000 are
pregraduate, 2.000 are graduate and 750 are doctorate students.
2.2.2 Contribution Credit (for Tuition)
In the academic year 2000-2001:
- 278.495 students are receiving contribution credit
- Apart from the 278.485,
288.129 more students have applied for contribution credit.
According to the available budget, 150.000 students have
been scheduled to get credit, and thus, the number of students
getting credit will have been increased to 428.495 and the
percentage of beneficiary students will have become 54.
